When I took the picture for my profile, I had a makeup artist make me pretty. At the time, I did not know that Mica, the sparkly stuff in makeup, came from illegal sources. I do now. I often wondered what I would do if there was a current situation similar to the situation in antebellum South where my ancestor were forced to work as slaves for hundreds of years. I have often wondered how so many people could turn their backs on the suffering of others. I am by no means a saint, but I do ask myself a lot of questions like these.
I’m asking you to join me in helping kids trapped inside the mining industry in India. These kids have no one to plead their case. There is no one to give them a voice. They work in dangerous mines to produce the Mica which ends up in almost all cosmetic products. Let's raise the funds to protect them from the mines, secure their education and give them a voice. I’m not asking you to save the world. I’m asking you to do what you can when you can. I’m asking you to ask yourself, what would I have done?
